- Surgical Suite - The Operating Room (OR) is, by far, the most expensive area of the hospital. Technology changes quickly and the lifespan of most equipment is about the same as the computer you probably have at home. The equipment for our 3 OR's is among the most costly, and yet necessary, in the health care system. We want to include:
– Three spacious new operating rooms designed to accommodate the latest technology;
– State-of-the-art equipment, including devices mounted on an overhead boom. The surgeon can
pull down these devices to use them and swing them out of the way when they are not in use.
- Renovated pre-op and post-anaesthesia recovery areas.
- Interfaith Chapel –The Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation has affirmed the role of spiritual, cultural or religious practices in health care. One of our Extended Care residents has put the case more personally. "Have you ever felt in this busy, noisy world that you want to say - stop the world, I want to get off? This place will be our chapel - where the spiritual needs of the hospital community can be met. It will be spacious enough that wheelchair and broda chair residents can take part in a service. It will also be a quiet peaceful place where people of all faiths can meditate." Construction costs continue to rise and we need to raise approximately $150,000 more before we can start building this much-needed addition to our hospital.
- In Memoriam - "During my wife's stay in Palliative Care she was visited twice by the Music Therapist. It was a truly moving and uplifting experience. Thank you for having such a caring and personal facility and staff." Many family members and friends make donations to honour a loved one. The Foundation uses these funds to train staff and volunteers in palliative care treatment and to support innovative programmes at Saanich Peninsula Hospital such as music therapy.
- Extended Care - Our residents are involved in the life of the hospital and let us know how much they like living here. Some benefit from the patient lift systems and other equipment that make life easier for both them and the staff. One resident recently told us that he "loves" living here and that "…we have a great team!" Many patients need help with daily tasks, and our nurses need support through the purchase of
